Addiction is dissociative self-loathing. An addict can become completely detached from one's self. All emotion is completely repressed to the point of non-existence. This lack of emotion allows for easy detachment from one's self as the person (the soul) is effectively gone. Through this dissociative state and analysis of one's actions, it is not hard to reason why one would begin to loath or hate themselves.
