The Financial Cost of Addiction

Looking back I cannot believe how much money went into my drug use. At some points in my addiction I was spending $500 plus a day on drugs, tobacco and alcohol. I have used virtually every drug to the extreme at certain points in my life. It is a miracle that I survived. It is no wonder that my addiction eventually led to my incarceration. Luckily I have only had to do a little over 6 months of time. I have lost my driver's license until next July (2017) but my legal issues are virtually done. I do still have some charges that were stayed however I do expect that they will eventually be dropped as the charges were actually false to start with. All in all, I have survived a lifetime of addiction with very fortunate results. I have been clean and sober now for over 6 months but have a long way to go. 30 years of drinking and drug use are a lot to recover from. I am in the process of rebuilding an entirely new life. Some things are completely foreign to me at this point and my thought processes are completely absurd. It all comes with time, I am told, so I am being patient and staying positive.

I may not have much money or material goods now, but I am very grateful for everything that I do have.
