The Story of My Past


Your past is a story. Tell it, not dwell on it.

There is an inherent therapeutic value in sharing your story. Sharing the message of hope and resiliency in a peer support group such as NA or group therapy can light the way for someone still struggling. Talking one-on-one with your counselor exposes the shame and irrationality of one's thoughts and beliefs and externalizing your story exposes these wounds and allows them to breathe and heal. Regardless of situation, acknowledging your past and believing that there is nothing that can be done to change it provides you with real power. Stop dwelling on your past with regrets and self-abuse. It is time to be proud of who you have become and to realize that your past has made you who you are today. You are not your mistakes but rather a culmination of lessons learnt by your mistakes.
